Many workshops and meetings have taken place during the SAFHY project. The main reason for these get together events is to keep the project rolling. We have agreed with the schedules and many details about the project implementation, found solutions to problems and made compromises, to mention some of the tasks. We have been working in cross-border cooperation, which has been very interesting and fruitful for all of us. We have learned to work with each other especially when aligning curricula and finding similarities and differences. Also when finding solutions for differences in hygienic practices.
Professionals in cleaning service and health care field use to think that there is right and wrong way of performing work activities. We know now that the best possible end can be reached following different kinds of paths. When you are familiar with the aseptic procedures and hygienic working methods, you will manage to reach good quality and high standards of hygiene.
The circumstances and facilities are not the same in work places. Professionals in real working life are not always working in a “perfect” manner and as said in study books, nevertheless the quality might be good if the basic principles of hygienic working methods and aseptic procedures have been followed. Safety and hygiene in work places and during students training periods will improve, when following basic guidelines and principles of hygiene.
“There are various kinds of floor cover materials. The choice of a surface cover material is based on its ability to dampen sound and its antistatic quality, level of slipperiness, maintainability, simplicity of installation, resistance to fire and the purpose of the room, etc. Floor cover materials are also classified by their frequency of use. Floor cover materials are assigned usage classes: medium, ordinary, intensive or very intensive use. When choosing floor cover materials the functions of the room, as well as the foundation on which the cover is installed is to be taken into account. In the case of an uneven foundation care must be taken when using machines in maintenance as the machines may cause mechanical damage to the surface cover. The good appearance and durability of surface covers depends on compliance with care instructions. All surface covers wear and are damaged by abrasive dirt; hence it is essential that the spread of such dirt is prevented for all surface cover materials. The best way to remove abrasive dirt is to use dry wiping.”

Recently we have filmed videos in the ”real” working life. We are proud to present videos filmed with one of our associated partners, the City of Järvenpää. The City of Järvenpää has a modern, recently built Social and Health Care Center. The wards have great facilities for both patients and staff. In the video a nurse is distributing medication into patient-spesific portions in a hygienic manner in a well equipped medication room.
However, no matter where you do it and what kind of facilites you have, you can always follow the guidelines for safe, hygienic working practices.
We have been developing digital, multilingual teaching material almost two years now in the SAFHY project. The last topics are

As earlier told, we did film a video of the changing of the stoma pouch about a year ago. Now we have also filmed a video of a patient changing the stoma pouch herself.
In nursing the patient’s ability to perform daily activities and routines is extremely important, and we wish with this video that health care workers realize that different kinds of performances will end to the best possible results. There is never only one way of performing the art of nursing, there are always several options, which end to the acceptable and good result. Guiding the patient to take care of stoma is meaningful for the patient, and soon the nurse will find out, that the patient can make it better and in a more practical manner than a professional ever.
